For the twenty-ninth consecutive year, the LAPD and PALS will hold a Golf Invitational to raise funds for a local youth center to serve at-risk kids in the Devonshire/Northridge area of the San Fernando Valley. The Invitational will be held at the Porter Ranch Country Club on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10AM. The full day of festivities will feature a putting contest, 36 foursomes in a scratch golf competition, lunch, dinner and the highly anticipated annual raffle with prizes ranging from high-end electronics to entry passes (at $250 value each) to the much anticipated annual Monte Carlo Poker Tournament benefiting PALS and hosted by Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson and the honorary Mayor of Northridge, as well as poker pro Jamie Gold. Entry for the golf tournament is $200 per player and your donation may be tax deductible. Many LAPD police officers join the tourney and participants can “adopt-a-cop” or promote a business with a custom Tee sign. These and other sponsorship opportunities are still available and you can find out more or sign up at www.devonshire-pals.com. Devonshire PALS (Police Activity League Supporters) is a non-profit organization of the LAPD Devonshire Division, established 30 years ago, dedicated to providing all youth in our area with the opportunity for a better lifestyle. Coordinated by LAPD officers and volunteers, the PALS Youth Center provides local kids with a safe haven for study, learning and exposure to activities they may never encounter otherwise. Offered are educational tutoring, computer training, cultural activities, arts and sports. The anti-gang programs teach young people to develop a positive attitude toward the law and their community. The successful PALS center is free of charge for kids 6-17 years old.
