Where Have All the Residents Gone? The Northridge West Neighborhood Council held its June 10, 2008 (2nd Tuesday of every month) meeting at Beckford Elementary School, as it has for the past year. This was the last chance for candidates running for one of the six (6) open seats to explain their reasons for wanting to commit to their community. This year, unlike past years, the LA City Clerk’s office will conduct the election to be held on Saturday, June 28, 2007, and which will also allow mail in balloting. All stakeholders in the Northridge West Neighborhood Council geographic boundary will receive a ballot in the mail which will explain everything you need to know. Please take the time to participate in this democratic process. In addition to this very important aspect of the meeting, the council approved several funding request intended to promote the safety and well being of all community members. One major commitment discussed at some length was to set aside $25,000 to be used in conjunction with Northridge East Neighborhood Council and CSUN for the New Vision Master Plan for the community. This plan intends to address planning and zoning issues as well as general beautification efforts. One such beautification effort concerned allocating $6,000 to clean up the Reseda Boulevard street medians. This project replaces a funding source from the Business Improvement District which dried up this year. Once again, this project is being funded in conjunction with Northridge East. After all, we are all “Northridgers” and proud of our community. The council also approved spending $1,000 to supply Devonshire Division LAPD officers with Command Boards which they use while on street patrol. Future requests for funds should be directed via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , and indicate in the “subject box” NWNC Funding Request. Requests for assistance with any other matter may be addressed at our monthly meetings held the second Tuesday of each month at Beckford Elementary School. Information regarding the council is available at our website, northridgewest.org. |
