Senior Center

The Chatsworth Senior Center, operating out of the Mason Park Recreation Center, is continuing to offer Department of Aging lunches and a limited program of activities.  The program has been available for the past several months on Mondays and Wednesdays, but as of June 24th the days will be changed to Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The day begins with coffee and conversation at 8:30 a.m. Bagels or rolls or some other treat is usually available for a small donation. And there is no shortage of topics for seniors to talk about.

Later chair exercises are held with Helen Walker leading the group.  Also available is line dancing with the same teacher who has taught the classes since last September. A bridge group is being formed for Tuesdays from 1-4 p.m. Stop by the recreation center and leave your name if you are interested.

The planned trip to Pechanga had to be cancelled because the trip needed a minimum of 40 people to fill the bus.   Harriet Van Tiger, trip chairman, is planning another trip soon to be announced.

Lunches are served at 12 noon and reservations must be made before 11 a.m. at the Center.  Lunches are served on a first-come first-served basis and seniors need to be 60 or over to participate .  Cost is $1.25 per person although seniors who cannot afford to pay will be served.

Homestead Acre Tours

The Homestead Acre will be open for tours from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, at 10385 Shadow Oak Drive, at the west end of Devonshire Street within Chatsworth Park South.   Tours are offered only on the first Sunday of the month, or other days, by arrangement,  for schools and large groups.  Although most of the park is closed due to environmental reasons, the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation and Parks has allowed the historical site to be reopened for business as usual.

There is plenty of free parking and docents provide tours of the museum, bungalow and beautiful gardens.

Featured displays include a Chatsworth Remembers the Fabulous Fifties with pictures showing what the area looked like in the 1950’s.  Also available are display cases filled with information about the early families of Chatsworth even before the area had a name.

For more information call (818) 341-3053.
